Yoga

“Yoga is the practice of tolerating the consequences of being yourself” ~ the Bhagavad Gita

Yoga is an ancient modality that works on all aspects of your being to achieve optimal health and wellbeing for the physical body, and all energy systems of the body.  The Gita style of Yoga works particularly with the endocrine system of the body.  Hormones are the chemical messengers of the body and are secreted by the seven major endocrine glands of the body into the bloodstream.  The seven endocrine glands are influenced by the seven major chakra centres of the body.

Hormones provide instructions for the body in terms of growth, repair, and function.  It is important therefore that the glands which produce the hormones are at their optimum state for you to function at your optimum level.  There are specific asanas to allow for the healing, rejuvenation and function of each chakra and endocrine gland for optimal health.  Even if the physical gland has been removed or is injured, the chakra centre of the gland is ever present and is positively influenced by Yoga.

Yoga also allows for the parasympathetic system of the body to be regulated so that the body can be in the healing state as opposed to the stressed state.  This promotes a sense of ease and deep peace as single-minded focus is naturally and gently encouraged during yoga practice.  Working in relationship with your body allows for the teaching of self-love and compassion as we learn to accept the current state of our mind and body.  With acceptance we naturally shift from a state of doing and achieving to a state of exploring and being.

Yoga is meditation in motion.  People increasingly find it difficult to be still as our society promotes being active, engaged, and stimulated constantly.  Yoga allows for the benefits of meditation whilst working with your body.

Yoga can be practiced by any body, of any physical capacity, at any time of their life.  Yoga that is practiced diligently and purposefully and regularly influences the physical and energetic aspects of the person in positive and beneficial ways.  These results can have far reaching impact in a person’s life.
